I have shot many hero stories for People magazine in the past, and they are always touching and sometimes hard to shoot. You go through a whole range of emotions when you are working on them. While sitting in the kitchen of James and J.D Bennett, I tried my hardest to keep a poker face on as they described their heroic act of saving two infants from a burning car that the children’s parents had just died in. As a parent I struggle with hearing these stories. I often think about what would I do in a similar situation, and I hope I would find it inside myself to be as brave as these people.
I have to thank Debbe Edelstein and Chris Dougherty from People for entrusting me with this story.
Also I would like to thank my assistant on the road Krystallynne Gonzalez for enduring brutal cold, speeding car rides, mad dashes through airports and one very scary emergency landing.
